Long story made short: The way her name is written on japanese can mean two different things: Kurenai Mizusu (unsure about spelling of last name) and Hong Meiling. The folks at 2chan were discussing which one of the two was the correct writing. Then? somebody said "Why don't we call her China for the time being" and the name stuck, even though later ZUN himself said her name is actually written and spoken as Hong Meiling.

Ha its a running joke the character for Hong literally means "Scarlet" in Japanese and "Red" in Chinese. Meiling means "Beautiful Bell". The latter part of her name, Meiling, is at least a common Chinese name. These characters can be read in Japanese as "Kurenai Misuzu", and you'll sometimes see her name mispronounced or miswritten that way. Her name could also? refer to the Red Guards a youth movement of the cultural revolution of the People's Republic of China this is reinforced by her outfit.

Yeah, I have the same problem. In the VR Missions intro you can clearly see Mei Ling but I also completed the NTSC version 100/% and still no Mei Ling. I have an NTSC PS2 because my PAL? I love all the original voices, especially Nastasha's. To everyone saying Mei Ling's accent doesn't make sense because she grew up in the US: In high school, I was friends with a girl whose parents were from China. She was born and raised in Canada, but she still had a Chinese accent. She spoke Cantonese? at home and had a large family here, including some older relatives who lived in China before immigrating here. She still has an accent four years out of high school.

They should have made some of their moves to be more comboable. There are a lot of restrictions to her combos (Just see what she can do in Monsoon weather)... still, there are characters like Tenshi or Youmu, who can pull some very damageful (but difficult) combos. What i'm trying to say is that Meiling? should have some very damaging combos for PRO players but she doesn't have then. Most of her combos in Clear weather don't get to 3000 as some of the high dificulty combos of other characters.

Meiling is actually a bit easier to combo with than a lot of characters. It's just that her limited range makes it harder than it seems. Meiling's forte is? mainly corner pressure, but Hisoutensoku really improved on her techniques. I had no idea the Lotus Flower Palm would hit from that far away...

She just claims that she was born and raised there, but she doesn't say anything about her time spent.
